Melbourne have made four changes for Friday night's crunch clash with AFL reigning premiers West Coast in Perth, handing a debut to Oskar Baker.

The Eagles made a single change for the round-nine opener, promoting Willie Rioli at the expense of Jake Waterman.

Baker will become the Demons' fifth debutant for the season, having been called up alongside Alex Neal-Bullen, Harrison Petty and Tim Smith.

Michael Hibberd (collarbone), Jordan Lewis (ankle) and Jake Melksham (foot) are all enforced omissions for Melbourne, while Declan Keilty was dropped from the side that pipped Gold Coast in a low-scoring thriller.

Robbie Young, who was overlooked in five drafts before St Kilda picked him up with selection No.67 last year, Geelong big man Darcy Fort and Brisbane's Mitchell Hinge will also start their AFL careers this weekend.

Essendon coach John Worsfold has reacted sternly after losing to Sydney, making a total of five changes for Saturday night's Marvel Stadium match against Fremantle.

The Bombers axed Brayden Ham, Zac Clarke and David Myers while Devon Smith and Orazio Fantasia are out because of injuries.

Key forward Joe Daniher headlines Essendon's five inclusions, while the Dockers have replaced Travis Colyer and Ryan Nyhuis with Connor Blakely and Taylin Duman.

Saints defender Jimmy Webster (hand) and Ben Long (omitted) will miss Saturday's MCG match against Collingwood, with Young and Jonathon Marsh taking their spots in the team.

The Lions called up Hinge, Josh Walker and Rhys Mathieson at the expense of hamstrung Zac Bailey and the discarded duo of Tom Cutler and Ryan Lester.

Hinge's long-awaited chance to impress at the highest level comes after the the Lions selected him with pick No.20 in the 2016 rookie draft.
