Defence minister visits Middle East troops

Defence Minister Christopher Pyne has travelled to the Middle East to spend time with Australian troops.

Defence Minister Christopher Pyne has travelled to the Middle East to visit Australian troops and meet key leaders in Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates.

Mr Pyne shared meals with diggers stationed in various camps during an overnight stay in Kabul, including Defence personnel helping to train Afghan officers.

He also met his Afghan counterpart as well as US General Scott Miller, who is the commander in charge of NATO-led operations.

"We will continue to stand with our international partners in facing global security challenges like terrorism," Mr Pyne said on Friday.

In the United Arab Emirates, Mr Pyne met the country's defence minister as well as the chairman of the Emirates Defence Industries Company.
