Deficits will decline in budget: Morrison

Treasurer Scott Morrison who will hand down his first budget on Tuesday says government debt will increase while there are budget deficits.

Treasurer Scott Morrison says government debt will continue to increase while there is a budget deficit but says it will peak in the next five to six years.

Mr Morrison, who will hand down his first budget on Tuesday, says deficits will decrease over the next four years.

"As long as we have got a deficit, debt will obviously continue to increase and that is why we have to reduce the deficit and the deficit will fall over the budget and forward estimates in the statement," he told the Nine Network on Sunday.
