Olympic silver medallist Juan Martin Del Potro was given a wild card entry into the US Open on Tuesday, ensuring that the Argentine can continue the comeback story of the ATP season.

The 2009 US Open winner whose ranking fell into the 140s after two years of wrist surgeries and recovery, made a miracle run at the Rio Games, losing in a four-hour marathon final at the weekend to Andy Murray.

Also handed free entries into the last grand slam of the season starting on August 29: Americans Bjorn Fratangelo and Frances Tiafoe, Olympian Rajeev Ram and Reilly Opelka.

Former No.4 Del Potro only returned to ATP play last February after his third left wrist operation. His Olympic sprint included a first-round win over number one Novak Djokovic and a semi-final defeat of Rafael Nadal before losing to Murray in the gold medal match last weekend.
