Passengers are being warned of possible flight delays after a fire broke out at Sydney Airport's international terminal.

Fire crews attended and were quick to extinguish the blaze on Wednesday afternoon.

A spokeswoman for Air Services Australia said passengers were evacuated and departure times may be affected.

A photo posted on Twitter shows the duty-free shopping area of the airport filled with smoke.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
