Australian doubles star Casey Dellacqua has been forced to withdraw from next week's lucrative WTA Finals, still suffering the effects of an on-court fall at the China Open.
Dellacqua, who copped a knock to the back of the head in the fall earlier this month and suffered from whiplash and concussion, was due to partner with Russian Yaroslava Shvedova in the doubles tournament at the WTA Finals in Singapore.
The duo have enjoyed a stellar year, reaching the final at both the French Open and US Open and qualifying for their debut as a team at the season-ending WTA Finals.
Ranked world No.5 in doubles, Dellacqua reluctantly ruled herself out on Friday.
"After spending a night in the hospital in Beijing & having to stay there for a few extra days I was able to fly home," she tweeted.
"Since then I have been doing my absolute best to get myself ready for the WTA finals in Singapore which I have been sooooo excited about since we qualified after US Open.
"Unfortunately I am not fully recovered & I have to withdraw.
"I am absolutely devastated & I am so sorry to my partner Slavia as i know we deserved our spot in Singapore & have been one of the best doubles teams this year."
Dellacqua and Shvedova,will be replaced by Spaniards Suarez Navarro and Garbine Muguruza in the WTA Finals doubles tournament.
