Lingering effects from a concussion suffered more than six months ago have forced Casey Dellacqua to step away from tennis.
A nasty fall at October's Beijing Open continues to plague Dellacqua, 31, the 2011 French Open mixed doubles champion and six-time women's doubles grand slam finalist.
She missed the Australian Open this year as she struggled with post-concussion syndrome, suffering headaches and neck pain.
On the eve of the French Open, the doubles specialist said she needed time away from the sport to improve her health.
"I thought that I was fully recovered from my concussion injury but I feel like I need a bit more time to get 100 per cent healthy," she posted on her Instagram account on Monday.
"I'm going to take a bit of time away from competition.
"I look forward to being back on tour and competing again soon when I am ready."
Her management said Dellacqua would miss the grass court season, including Wimbledon, with no specific return date.
The West Australian has played a handful of doubles events after the Australian Open, including a crucial role in Australia's Fed Cup win over Slovakia in February where she won the decisive doubles tie with Sam Stosur.
The former world No.26 has played just one singles match since October - a 6-1 6-0 loss to Bulgarian world No.105 Tsvetana Pironkova in March.
