Matthew Dellavedova's journey from country Victoria to an NBA champion will be immortalised in a feature film.

The Milwaukee point guard and his agent Bruce Kaider have met with Los Angeles based producers Zachary Green and Jason Shuman to discuss the project, which will culminate with last year's NBA title with Cleveland.

Kaider said the film would be in the same mould as Rocky and Hoosiers, with production set to begin in Australia next year.

"Delly's inspirational story about overcoming the odds is one everyone can relate to," he said.

"In real life, it played out just like a movie."

Dellavedova went undrafted in 2013 before being picked up by the Cavaliers.

He shot to fame for his aggressive style during the 2014-15 NBA playoffs series, which Cleveland lost to Golden State.

However he and Cleveland turned the tables last season, before he helped Australia to within one victory of their first men's basketball Olympic medal.

"Everyone dreams of the one-in-a-million chance of playing in the NBA," Green said.

"But this blue-collar kid actually achieved it.

"I am looking forward to bringing this story to the big screen."

Dellavedova, 26, said he was honoured by the project.

"I am thrilled to be working with this incredible group to tell my story to inspire kids around the world to dream big and that hard work and perseverance pays off," he said.
