The first dementia assistance dog trained in Australia will graduate in a Melbourne ceremony with five other specialist dogs.

Australia's first dementia assistance dog will graduate in Melbourne in a special ceremony.

Six specialist pooches have been training for two years ahead of Thursday's ceremony at Southbank - three physical disability assistance dogs, one autism assistance dog, a dementia assistance dog and one post-traumatic stress dog.

The Dogs 4 Dementia program was launched in 2015, and is the second of its kind in the world.
