Dementia now on national agenda, says Buttrose

Outgoing Australian of the Year, Ita Buttrose, says she suspects Australia's politicians don't know how to address aged care challenges.

The outgoing Australian of the Year, Ita Buttrose says she suspects Australia's politicians don't quite know how to address the challenges she sees in the aged care sector.

The celebrated journalist and health activist says the Australian of the Year award gave her added authority to put dementia on the national agenda in her role as national president of Alzheimer's Australia.

Ita Buttrose told Greg Dyett, the honour resulted in a particulary busy 12 months.
