A Democratic congresswoman has been caught playing Candy Crush during US President Donald Trump's SOTU address on Tuesday local time.

Mr Trump addressed Congress in an 80-minute speech, which was met with continuous standing ovations from the Republicans, but Democrats often refused to stand or clap.

Following the fallout, a Getty Images photo appears to catch Democrat Brenda Lawrence, Southfield Michigan,  playing Candy Crush roughly a third of the way through the speech.
This was at the time Mr Trump was discussing his administration's plan to boost international trade, according to The Hill.

Women within the Democratic Women's Working Group were wearing black on the day to support the #MeToo movement. Many black legislators also draped themselves in African-inspired shawls.

Lawrence's office declined to comment to the 'Detroit News' story about the photo on Thursday, but she did speak to the media following the address and said she felt disconnected from Trump's speech.

"When you know his policies and the things he has said and the disrespect, I cannot connect the words to the person standing there," she told The Detroit News.

"He kept talking about us as Americans. I don’t feel like I’m his America. I’ve been feeling that way for a long time."

Many other members of Congress were using their mobile phones to take notes during the speech.
