Melbourne have lost forward Jeff Garlett with an ankle injury for Sunday's AFL match against North Melbourne in Hobart.

The Demons have also dropped three players in the wake of last week's upset loss to lowly Essendon.

Defenders Colin Garland and Cam Pedersen paid the price, while coach Paul Roos had already made it clear Angus Brayshaw was not ready for his senior return.

Lynden Dunn, Sam Frost and Billy Stretch were recalled and rookie-listed defender Josh Wagner will make his senior debut.

The Kangaroos brought in Scott Thompson for Lachie Hansen.

Hawthorn and the Western Bulldogs made one change apiece for their match of the round on Sunday at the MCG.

Premiership midfielder Liam Shiels will return from a wrist fracture and the Hawks have left out Daniel Howe in his place.

The Bulldogs brought back Lin Jong for Josh Dunkley.

Daniel Menzel joins first-gamer Tom Ruggles as Geelong's inclusions for their Sunday home game against Brisbane.

Jordan Murdoch has soreness and Cory Gregson was dropped.

The Lions lost captain Tom Rockliff to a calf muscle injury, but regain Mitch Robinson.
