Fewer grannies are keeping their teeth in a glass of water by the bed - the denture is in decline in Victoria.

New data shows Victorian pensioners are keeping their own teeth for longer, with a 35 per cent increase in people aged over 65 seeking public dental care over the past four years.

And better dental care has led to a 16 per cent reduction in the need for false gnashers, Dental Health Services Victoria data shows.

"This means a better quality of life and a better chance of excellent over all health," DHSV CEO Dr Deborah Cole said in a statement.
