Turns out the Hayne Plane can't carry everybody.

Fiji forward Viliame Kikau almost had his Rugby League World Cup semi-final dreams dashed after being detained in New Zealand for the past two days due to visa issues.

The Penrith big man didn't fly with the team to Brisbane on Sunday when New Zealand customs officials realised his Australian work visa expired on October 31.

Kikau was forced to stay in Wellington, missing the team's main training run of the week on Tuesday morning before re-uniting with the squad for a gym session in the afternoon.

Teammate Jacob Saifiti said he was relieved to see Kikau after RLWC officials gained a temporary visa for the Fijian forward.

"To be honest I didn't even realise until the next day but obviously you saw how he played on the weekend and the games before. He's such a damaging ball-runner," Saifiti said on Tuesday.

"One hundred and twenty kilos but moves like a back. I'm glad he's on our team, that's for sure."

The duo have been a key part of the Bati's run to the final four, which included last week's shock 4-2 win over a New Zealand side boasting a host of NRL stars in their forward pack.

Saifiti admitted Australia would be a more difficult proposition because of their all-star spine, and a defence that has so far been breached just three times in 320 minutes of football.

"(New Zealand and Australia are) pretty similar but they're obviously the number one in the world," Saifiti said.

"We've been doing some video on them and their defence is unreal. I think they've let in three tries the whole tournament. We're going to have to be at our best to have a chance.

"On the weekend we conceded two (points) and it was enough. I think it'll be defence again this week. It's hard to say how many points we concede will give us the win, but we'll back our defence."

Meanwhile, it is believed Fjii squad member Mikaele Ravalawa was involved in a bar altercation in the early hours of Saturday's win over the Kiwis but avoided being charged.

He has yet to feature in the tournament.
