Detectives will speak to a teenage girl who was shot through the thigh as investigators try to establish a motive for the drive-by attack in western Sydney.
The 13-year-old was chatting with a group of other girls in an open garage at a property in Guildford on Tuesday night when a silver SUV pulled up and shots rang out.
One of the bullets ripped through her thigh. She was rushed to the Children's Hospital at Westmead where she underwent surgery.
The teenager remained in a stable condition on Thursday morning.
Authorities believe the shooting was not random and suspect that while the house was likely targeted, the girl wasn't.
Detectives, who haven't revealed a motive for the attack, will interview the girl when her condition improves, NSW Police told AAP on Thursday.
The girl's mother says she has no idea what sparked the shooting.
"She was in the wrong place at the wrong time," she told News Corp Australia.
The girl shared a video of her injuries from a hospital bed via social media.
Friends of the victim also posted words of encouragement on Facebook.
"Stay strong sis hope everything's okay," one wrote.
Superintendent Matt Appleton has condemned the incident as cowardly.
"This is an atrocious crime ... for a young girl to be wounded is just shocking," he said on Wednesday.
