Cheers pub in Sydney’s CBD was at capacity on Sunday morning as punters from Argentina and France made themselves heard in a thrilling contest which saw seven goals scored.
As the game kicked off, the massive Argentinian contingent insisted their talisman Lionel Messi would guide them to victory over the French, and through to the quarter finals.
They acknowledged their performance so far left something to be desired, but fans were sure the Albi Celeste would this time secure a win.

"We are so excited. We suffered a lot, but we still believe we can make it tonight," a keen Argentinian fan told SBS News.
Although outnumbered, French fans in the crowd made themselves heard chanting ‘allez les Bleus’, or ‘come on France.'
A tense first half followed with both sides scoring to an electric atmosphere in the packed pub.
One French fan expressing her nerves: "I am scared. I am very scared, with all of those people it can be hard to enjoy. Viva la France," she said.

Recouping during halftime, Argentinian punters chanted Messi’s name hoping the football legend would bring it home for them.
But despite their chants, the second half was devastating for Argentina as France claimed the crucial victory, leaving fans dejected.
The once small contingent of French fans in the pub, now louder than ever.
"We are so happy. it was thrilling, it was a beautiful game," a fan said.

And the once boisterous Argentinian crowd were now silently filing out of the pub.
