The Department of Foreign Affairs is investigating whether an Australian man has been arrested in Lebanon, on suspicion of having terrorist links.

The man's home, near the northern city of Tripoli, was reportedly raided by the Lebanese army on Sunday night.

He's believed to be aged in his mid 20s, and of Lebanese descent.

The region is known to be a hotbed of Sunni extremists with links to Islamic State militants.
