Australia will be a part of a new four-nation netball competition with New Zealand, South Africa and England.
The four countries have joined to form a partnership known as SANZEA and the International Netball Federation has indicated its support.
Australia and New Zealand will stage the inaugural competition in late 2016, and the format, dates and venues are due to be released in the new year.
The event will move to South Africa and England in early 2017.
"(The Netball World Cup in Sydney this year) demonstrated that netball has enormous appeal, not just in Australia and New Zealand, but worldwide," Netball Australia chief executive Kate Palmer said.
"The profile of netball both in Australia and internationally has never been stronger and Netball Australia is confident the SANZEA partnership is another major step towards enhancing our position as the world's leading female sport heading towards the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast."
A review will be undertaken after the first two years, which could mean an expansion with other nations added.
The last time Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and England played a tournament outside the World Cup and Commonwealth Games was in 2012.
