Entrepreneur Dick Smith is reportedly eyeing the Sydney north shore seat of former federal Speaker Bronwyn Bishop in a bid to push through aviation reform.

The well-known businessman and philanthropist is considering challenging the 73-year-old politician, with polling indicating he could "romp it in" in Mrs Bishop's Mackellar seat, Fairfax Media reports.

It comes after Mr Smith, who would run as an independent, last year flagged running against former prime minister Tony Abbott in his north shore seat of Warringah.
