Australian soldiers have been involved in an incident in Afghanistan and defence is presently informing the next of kin of some of the diggers involved.

More details will be made available at 8.45am (AEST) when Defence Minister Stephen Smith and Defence Force Chief Angus Houston hold a press conference at defence headquarters in Canberra.
