The massive spider was found by Mount Coolum woman Lauren Ansell on Sunday.

Ms Ansell told the Sunshine Coast Daily newspaper she and her partner were trying to access their barbeque, a move which angered 'Aragog'.

She claimed the spider was the size of a grown man’s hand, even rivalling the family cat.

The spider interrupted the couple’s dinner plans until it eventually dropped from the patio door and wandered off into the garden.

'Aragog' is the name for giant spiders in the Harry Potter series.
