Disability advocates say assess NDIS value, not cost

Treasurer Joe Hockey says the federal Government hopes to make the National Disability Insurance Scheme more affordable after unexpected cost blowouts.

The recent budget update shows the scheme's cost would rise by two billion dollars in 2016-17 to almost 10 billion dollars by 2019-20.

However, disability advocates want the Federal Government to measure the National Disability Insurance Scheme on the overall benefits it will bring to communities, not its price tag.

Australian Federation of Disability Organisations acting CEO Stephen Gianni spoke with Brianna Piazza.
