Aaron Finch's frustrating run of outs since the Cricket World Cup continued on Tuesday, when Australia's Twenty20 captain was overlooked by Victorian selectors.
Finch enjoyed the highlight of his career at a sold-out MCG on March 29, helping Australia defeat New Zealand by seven wickets in the World Cup final.
The hard-hitting opener suffered a torn hamstring, bruised lung and broken foot in the following months.
The injuries curbed Finch's hopes of playing a full county season with Yorkshire, while the lack of match fitness meant he was initially overlooked for Australia's one-day tour of England in September.
Finch was recalled to the national side when David Warner broke his thumb, crafting an unbeaten 70 in the series decider at Old Trafford.
But the 28-year-old managed only one half-century for Victoria in the domestic one-day tournament.
Finch was subsequently left out of Victoria's side for their season-opening Sheffield Shield clash with Queensland, selectors preferring to blood debutant opener Travis Dean.
"Finchy will be bitterly disappointed," Victorian captain Matthew Wade said.
"I know he's been working really hard - it's unfortunate he didn't get selected.
"He's made it clear to us he wants to play Test cricket, so he'll work really hard and I've got no doubt he'll be back in the team at some stage."
Finch is the only one on Cricket Australia's 2015-16 contract list to miss out on a state cap this week, apart from those players who are injured or retired.
The snub came after Test paceman Peter Siddle was ignored throughout the state's one-day campaign, prompting national coach Darren Lehmann to voice his frustration.
Finch only played two first-class games for Victoria in 2014-15, however that was largely due to extensive ODI commitments.
Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie had suggested in the past that the Colac-born batsman could be a Test star if given the chance.
Victorian chairman of selectors Andrew Lynch, who also left Cameron White on the sidelines, noted Dean earned his cap after scoring a double-century for Victoria's second XI.
The Bushrangers will boast an impressive pace attack, headlined by Siddle and James Pattinson, who hasn't played a Test since March 2014 due to a series of injuries.
"He will be back in the Test team pretty soon," Wade said.
