Disaster relief will finally be on its way to Queensland farmers and small businesses affected by Cyclone Debbie, following a public slanging match between the state and federal governments.
The Queensland Government on Saturday announced it had completed all paperwork necessary to secure federal relief grants, which would allow for small businesses and not-for-profit organisations affected by the cyclone to apply for up $25,000 in funding.
The move comes more than a week after a public slanging match between Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce and Queensland Deputy Premier Jackie Trad over the delay in getting funding.
Mr Joyce complained before Easter that Queensland had not properly completed the paperwork associated with its submission for the grants, and told state government to "get competent".
Ms Trad, meanwhile, told Mr Joyce to "stop acting like a child."
In a statement on Saturday, Ms Trad said the state government had submitted all required business cases associated with its application to the federal government on Friday.
"The Queensland Reconstruction Authority have worked hard with state agencies to gather the information to support the request for assistance for small businesses and non-profit organisations in areas of Mackay, Isaac, Rockhampton and Logan," she said.
"We have been extremely thorough in preparing this request to make sure this application captures those small businesses that have been impacted and meet the Commonwealth's complex requirements."
Ms Trad said without the funding, many small businesses and organisations would struggle to recover and could fail.
