Diver Wu into world platform finals

Australian diving captain Melissa Wu has fought her way into the world championship 10-metre platform finals in Kazan, Russia.

Australian diving captain Melissa Wu has fought her way back from second last to qualify for the world championship 10-metre platform finals in Kazan, Russia.

By making the top 12 Wu has also booked Australia a place in the platform event at the Rio Olympics.

Australia's Brittany Broben, who is returning to diving after shoulder surgery, won silver in the platform at the London Olympics.

Wu found herself in 17th place in a field of 18, with only the top 12 to make the final, after a disappointing third semi-final dive.

But a solid fourth dive moved the 23-year-old into 14th place, and then a big final plunge took the two-time Olympian to 11th and a place in the final.

Wu is looking to add to the bronze medal she won with Domonic Bedggood in the mixed platform event earlier this week.

The final will be contested on Thursday night, Australian time.
