Divers Wu, Bedggood in Comm Games team

Diver Melissa Wu will compete in her fourth Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in April, despite missing the trials with a back injury.

Melissa Wu and Domonic Bedggood will lead Australia's 14-strong Commonwealth Games diving team after both were selected despite missing the trials through injury.

Selectors delayed the announcement after December's trials on the Gold Coast as they weighed up their options.

They confirmed on Sunday Wu would compete in her fourth Commonwealth Games in April.

Back and knee issues forced Wu, an Olympic, world and Commonwealth Games medallist, out of the trials while defending Commonwealth Games champion Bedggood badly scratched his leg in the lead-up to the meet and was also forced out.

The pair, along with Wu's synchro partner Taneka Kovchenko, were relying on the selectors' discretion based on previous form.

They will be joined by reigning 1m world champion Maddison Keeney, while Anabelle Smith, Esther Qin and Georgia Sheehan have also retained their spots after competing in Glasgow four years ago.

Commonwealth Games debutantes include Rio Olympian Brittany O'Brien, AnnaRose Keating, Matthew Carter, Declan Stacey, Matthew Barnard, Kurtis Mathews and Kovchenko.

"This diving team boasts 10 previous Commonwealth Games medals including three gold, so it is a very strong team," Australia's Chef de Mission Steve Moneghetti said.

"It is great to see some great young diving talent coming through as well."

Commonwealth Games diving team: Melissa Wu, Taneka Kovchenko, Brittany O'Brien, AnnaRose Keating, Maddison Keeney, Anabelle Smith, Esther Qin, Georgia Sheehan, Domonic Bedggood, Declan Stacey, Matthew Barnard, Matthew Carter, Kurtis Mathews, James Connor.
