Veteran Dockers defender Michael Johnson and Shane Yarran are facing assault charges, and Harley Bennell is injured again.

Welcome to the nightmare that is Fremantle's off-season, where the bad news just keeps on coming - even before a ball has been bounced in anger.

Police confirmed on Friday that Johnson has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm over the bizarre kebab shop incident that resulted in him allegedly punching a Bunbury school teacher.

Johnson's charge was compounded by news that star recruit Harley Bennell - who failed to play an AFL game for the Dockers last year because of a torn right calf - had now injured his left calf.

Bennell will fly to Munich next month to see Dr Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfarht in a bid to find a solution for his soft-tissue problems.

Muller-Wohlfarht, affectionately known as Healing Hans, has previously treated Collingwood's Ben Reid and Geelong's Max Rooke for soft tissue injuries, as well as Olympic gold medal sprinter Usain Bolt.

Fremantle say Bennell suffered his latest injury at training last Friday.

They hope he will recover in time to play in round one of the AFL season.

But given his long history of soft tissue injuries - both at Fremantle and previous club Gold Coast - Bennell faces a battle to stay injury free for the rest of the summer.

In another blow for the Dockers, star midfielder Lachie Neale has undergone minor surgery on his right knee.

Neale is expected to resume full training in January.

Johnson will front Perth Magistrates Court on January 18 over the 3am incident on November 13 that was allegedly captured on CCTV footage.

It is claimed the star Docker was filmed with his pants down around his ankles by the school teacher.

CCTV footage appears to show Johnson's partner grabbing the phone, and the school teacher following her outside the shop.

It is at this point the man was allegedly punched by Johnson.

On the same weekend as Johnson's incident, Yarran was involved in a dispute with a family member that resulted in him being charged with aggravated assault.

Yarran, who will front Fremantle Magistrates Court on December 6, has told the Dockers he intends to plead not guilty.

The string of off-field issues for the Dockers came just weeks after they secured Brad Hill, Shane Kersten, Cameron McCarthy and premiership defender Joel Hamling during a bumper trade period.

Johnson was voted back into Fremantle's leadership group in January following a six-year absence.

But he is facing a swift demotion if he is found guilty of assault.
