Premiership defender Joel Hamling has urged fellow Docker Michael Johnson to play on next season, comparing the veteran to Harry Taylor and Dale Morris.
Johnson's career was on a knife's edge after he was charged with assault over the summer.
But the 32-year-old has been able to put aside the off-field drama to produce a strong season, playing every game so far.
Johnson is keen to play on next season, and it's understood the club is leaning towards offering him a one-year deal.
Goalsneak Hayden Ballantyne is also expected to earn a one-year extension barring a serious injury mishap.
Hamling, who crossed from the Bulldogs at the end of last season, said he has enjoyed playing with Johnson, and he doesn't want it to end just yet.
"He's been outstanding," Hamling told reporters on Tuesday.
"I've had some good old guys in my career (like) Harry Taylor and he stacks up with them, even Dale Morris - he's up there with them two.
"I would love to have Johnno around again, of course.
"Everyone at the club loves Johnno. He's a great leader and off the field."
Johnson will appear in the Perth Magistrate's Court on October 13 after allegedly punching a man in a kebab shop scuffle following a night out.
The 227-game veteran says he regrets the incident, and thanked the club for their support.
Fremantle have lost eight of their past nine games to slip out of the finals picture.
But they have a good chance to win on Saturday night when they host the struggling Gold Coast at Domain Stadium.
The pressure is ramping up on Suns coach Rodney Eade following four straight losses.
The Suns are hopeful Gary Ablett (hamstring) will be fit to return.
Fremantle are set to be without Connor Blakely for the rest of the season after the emerging star twice dislocated his shoulder in last week's loss to GWS.
Hamling is preparing himself to take on star Gold Coast forward Tom Lynch, who has booted 41 goals this season.
