Does Australia need a carbon pricing scheme?

Prime Minister Julia Gillard says a fixed carbon price would start on July 1, 2012, before moving to a cap-and-trade emissions trading scheme (ETS) within three to five years.Industry will be required to pay a price for every tonne of carbon pollution it pumps into the air, while consumers may be faced with higher bills. What do you think? Is this the best way to fight global warming?
