Dog named 'Lazarus' survives lethal injection

A dog in the United States has had more than his fair share of near death experiences surviving heartworm, being hit by a car and most recently, a lethal injection.

The mixed breed dog was abandoned at the Ozark City Animal Shelter in Alabama in August.

After failing to find the dog a home the animal shelter decided to put him down.

According to Bobby Blakenship from the Ozark Police Department, dogs are injected according to their weight and he was injected the right amount of medication.

Animal officer Wanda Snell said she saw the dog being injected, but when she arrived for work the next day she saw him standing unsteadily in his pen.

Earning himself the name Lazarus, he has been given a fourth chance at life with a family in Birmingham.
