Luxury fashion house Dolce and Gabbana faces backlash for naming its latest footwear collection 'Slave sandals.'

Luxury fashion brand Dolce and Gabbana has drawn criticism online for naming a new style of shoe "slave sandals".

The shoe is a twist on the popular gladiator-style sandal, with pompoms and coloured straps.
It comes as surprise to many followers of the fashion brands latest endeavours, a couture hijab line and a campaign for handbags that featured same-sex parents and their children.

Still, it is not the first time the company has come under fire for controversial fashion statements. Many were outraged by a series of "Moorish" earrings, which depicted dark-skinned women hanging from the earlobes of white models.

The designers have also been criticised for prints depicting racially insensitive prints of dark-skinned women.
