Steffano Gabbana, half of iconic design duo Dolce & Gabbana, has revealed the Italian fashion house's first hijab collection on Instagram.

The collection offers modest options for Muslim women who wish to cover their hair under a hijab (head scarf) or bodies under an abaya (cloak-like dress).

The firm isn't just making a fashionable statement with the collection, it makes financial sense, as the Middle East shows an increased demand for luxury brands.

According to Reuters, Muslim women are expected to spend $484 billion on clothing and shoes by 2019.

Prices for the new collection are yet to be released, but high fashion does not come cheap.

Dresses from Dolce & Gabbana's main collection are priced between $5000-$22,000 Australian dollars.

Handbags similar to those shown alongside the new hijab collection cost around AUD$2500.

While hijabs and abayas are usually simple, unadorned garments, Dolce & Gabbana incorporated motifs from their current mainline collection to inject current trends into the looks.

Lemon and rose motifs, echoing those seen in the brand's current ad campaign, feature in the clothes and accessories.

The range is likely to be a hit with wealthy Muslim women, as the brand has seven stores in Saudi Arabia alone and has plans to open more stores in the Middle East.
