Queensland's premier has renewed her push for paid domestic violence leave to become a national employment standard ahead of a COAG leaders meeting.
Annastacia Palaszczuk wants all governments across the country to follow Queensland's leave and provide paid leave for those affected by family and domestic violence.
"Family and domestic violence is a national issue and we need a national approach," she said.
Queensland last week became the first jurisdiction to legislate paid domestic and family violence for public sector workers.
Government employees are entitled to up 10 days of paid leave to attend medical, legal and counselling appointments and arrange alternative accommodation and child care assistance.
"As an employer of more than 200,000 Queenslanders, my government has chosen to lead by example," Ms Palaszczuk said.
The premier said she first raised the idea of a national employment standard for domestic and family violence leave at a COAG summit in October.
Her latest call comes ahead of Friday's COAG meeting in Canberra.
