Dominant Bangladesh torment Windies

Bangladesh are on track to complete an emphatic victory in the second Test with the West Indies after reducing the tourists to 5-75 in reply to 508 in Dhaka.

Bangladesh has reduced a woeful West Indies to 5-75 in response to their mammoth first innings of 508 at stumps on day two of the second cricket Test in Dhaka.

The hosts won the series open in Chittagong by 64 runs and a more emphatic winning margin looms after the West Indies' top order caved in after their bowlers continued to toil at the Shere Bangla National Stadium on Saturday.

Mahmudullah hit a career-best 136 for Bangladesh, while skipper Shakib Al Hasan (80), Shadman Islam (76) and Liton Das (54) all weighed in with half-centuries.

Then Bangladesh's four-pronged spin attack took charge on an increasingly deteriorating pitch.

Offspinner Mehidy Hasan (3-36) and left-arm spinner Shakib led the way, turning the ball viciously as West Indies slumped to 5-29 in just 12 overs.

Shakib made the breakthrough in just the first over, knocking off the middle stump of captain Kraigg Brathwaite for 0, to trigger the collapse.

Mehidy Hasan ended Kieran Powell's (4) uncomfortable stay with a slider and Shakib fooled Sunil Ambris (7) with a turning delivery.

Mehidy Hasan then struck twice in his consecutive overs when he bowled Roston Chase (0) and Shai Hope (10).

Much-needed resistance was provided by Shimron Hetmyer (32) and Shane Dowrich (17), who used their feet nicely to build a partially face-saving unbroken 46-run stand for the sixth wicket.

The West Indies still need to 234 more runs to avoid the prospect of following on.

Earlier, all 11 Bangladesh batsmen reached double digits for the first time, while an innings passed 500 runs on the ninth occasion after Shakib and Mahmudullah resumed with the score on 5-259.
