Donald Trump may buy New York island

US real estate mogul Donald Trump has set his eyes on a 341-hectare New York island for his next purchase.

Donald Trump is considering buying New York's Plum Island.

The real estate mogul and television reality star tells The Associated Press that he'd consider purchasing the island off the east coast of Long Island.

The federal government has announced plans to sell the 341-hectare island. It plans to move an animal disease laboratory from there to a facility being built in Kansas.

In a telephone interview on Tuesday, Trump said he had yet to study what he might do with the island if he were to purchase it.

Several elected officials have announced legislation to block the island's sale.

Also, the town of Southold recently enacted zoning laws that would severely restrict development there.

There has been no estimate on what the island could fetch at auction.
