Australians must not fall prey to the temptation of turning on each other just as terrorists want us to do, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull warns.

Australia remained the world's most successful multicultural country, he said amid debate about opinion polls showing significant opposition to Muslim immigration.

"Believe me, what the terrorists are seeking to do is get the broader Australian community to turn on the Muslim community," he told Neil Mitchell on 3AW radio on Friday.
