Doohan's son makes mark in European karts

Mick Doohan's son has secured the first podium of his European karting career, finishing second at a race in Italy on the weekend.

The 14-year-old son of motorcycle champion Mick Doohan has secured the first podium of his European karting career, finishing second at an event in Italy.

Jack Doohan overcame torrential rain at the opening round of the WSK Super Master Series in Adria, starting from fourth in the grid in the final of the OK-Junior class to finish 2.9 seconds behind race winner Andrea Rosso from Italy.

Doohan, who has set his sights on a career in Formula One, began his path to international glory by winning the Australian karting championship in 2015 and 2016.

The youngster is hoping to achieve the sort of his career managed by his father, who claimed five consecutive 500cc Grand Prix world championships in the 1990s.
