More than 120 Boko Haram militants are dead after the Islamist group challenged a Chadian army contingent in northern Cameroon, officials say.

Three soldiers and 123 militants were killed in the attacks staged by the Islamist group on Thursday and Friday in the Fotokol region, according to a Chadian military statement read out on national television.

Twelve soldiers were also wounded.

The Chadian army has sent a convoy of troops and 400 military vehicles into neighbouring Cameroon to deal with the growing threat Boko Haram poses in the region.
