It was definitely the day of the doctor on TV on Sunday.

A Dr Who 50th anniversary special made the television ratings top 10 and an interview with Michael Jackson's physician Conrad Murray helped 60 Minutes to claim the number one show.

The highly anticipated Doctor Who: The Day Of The Doctor was watched by a combined audience of more than 1.3 million on Sunday according to OzTAM.

The premiere 6.50am (AEDT) screening, which was simulcast with more than 90 countries around the world, drew an audience of 424,000 while the 7.30pm repeat was watched by 922,000 viewers.

The repeat was enough to hoist the Doctor and his Tardis into ninth spot overall on a day which belonged to the Nine Network.

Liz Hayes' 60 Minutes' interview with Murray was intriguing to say the least and helped the program in attracting 1.380 million viewers to be the most watched show for the day.

It was one of six programs that Nine screened which made the top 10.

Nine News (1.315 million) was second and David Attenborough's Secrets Of Wild India was third with 1.149 million viewers.

All three sessions of the fourth day of the first Ashes cricket Test made the top 10.

The third session, in which Australian claimed victory, was sixth with 1.064 million while the first session (1.002 million) was seventh and the second session (962,000) was third.
