St George Illawarra coach Paul McGregor says he still wants to re-sign Benji Marshall to a new deal despite the star playmaker considering a possible homecoming to the Wests Tigers.
Marshall's management is believed to have entered talks with his old team last week on what would be an emotional return to the club, however McGregor re-iterated a desire to keep the veteran halfback.
"We want Benji to stay here. There's no doubting that. He knows that. I've had good conversations with Benji, and that's as far as I need to talk about it," McGregor said on Sunday.
Revelations of Marshall's possible reunion with the Tigers come as prodigious pair Mitchell Moses and Luke Brooks keep the club waiting on whether they choose to opt-in on a further season at Concord.
Wests Tigers management has given the pair until June to decide on their futures.
Moses starred in the absence of the suspended Brooks in the Tigers' season-opening win over the Warriors on Saturday, and has previously stated a desire to find form before signing off on any new deal.
"I needed to play good footy, that's what I needed to do," Moses told Fairfax Media.
"I didn't do anything like that last year. I said I want to put off my talks so I can play some good footy before I go into talks ... I'm itching to get out there and show what I can do and show the people I can actually play footy instead of just being a passenger."
Marshall, 31, played 201 games in his first 11 seasons in the NRL with the Tigers, becoming the club's top tryscorer and pointscorer, before making a shock move to rugby union at the end of 2013.
However his time with the Auckland Blues failed, and he came back to rugby league with the Dragons midway through 2014, and again starts at halfback in Monday's season-opener against Melbourne.
