'Dramatic' changes to Arctic ice coverage

A new study shows the Arctic sea has lost three million square kilometres of ice cover over the last 35 years.

A new study shows the Arctic sea has lost three million square kilometres of ice cover over the last 35 years.

Published in the Annals of Glaciology, the paper is a collection of satellite sea ice measurements that show dramatic changes in the Arctic and Antarctic seas.

Lead investigator from the School of Earth Sciences at the University of Melbourne, Ian Simmonds, spoke to Dragana Mrkaja about his discoveries.
