Dreamworld visitors still down on 2016

Ardent Leisure, the owner of Dreamworld theme park on the Gold Coast, says its visitor numbers in June were down 30.5 per cent on same month the previous year.

Shares in Ardent Leisure have rallied after the Dreamworld theme park owner reported an improvement in visitation numbers.

Ardent, which also owns Whitewater World, said visitor numbers were down 30.5 per cent in June compared to a year ago.

However, this was better than the 35.8 per cent decline reported in May.

Shares in Ardent closed 3 cents, or 1.5 per cent, higher at $2.07 on Monday.

Unaudited revenues declined by about 35 per cent to $4.4 million during June, which was also a slight improvement on May's numbers.

Visitor numbers have been dramatically lower for Ardent Leisure, which also owns Whitewater World, since four people died when a raft flipped on the Thunder Rive Rapids ride at Dreamworld, on the Gold Coast, last October.
