A disturbing video has emerged of the moment a car ploughed through a large group of cyclists, scattering at least 20 people but miraculously injuring only nine in Brazil's Port Alegre.

The attack occurs at 0:54 seconds in the video below. It may be disturbing to some viewers.

The cyclists - who included women and children - were taking part in a monthly rally aimed at promoting environmentally friendly transport and increasing drivers' awareness of riders on the road.

Of those hurt, nine needed hospital treatment. All were later discharged, the BBC reported.

Ricardo Neis, 47,said he and his 15-year-old son felt threatened when protesters began to hit and kick his car, according to the BBC.

The 'Critical Mass' demonstration occurs on the last Friday of every month in numerous countries around the world.
