'Drunk' NSW mum crashes car with child

A mother has been charged with high-range drink driving after she allegedly crashed a car containing her four-year-old daughter.

A NSW mother has been charged by police and reported to social services after she allegedly crashed a car with her young daughter in it while four times the legal limit.

The 31-year-old was travelling north on the Princes Highway at Kiama Bends, south of Wollongong, on Sunday night when the vehicle left the road.

Police said one tyre deflated and the car struck a centre barrier, almost causing it to roll, before continuing for another 500 metres and breaking down.

The four-year-old girl was not injured.

Several passers-by removed the woman from the vehicle and took her keys as police arrived.

She allegedly returned a blood-alcohol reading of .200 when tested at Lake Illawarra Police Station.

The woman was charged with high-range drink driving, driving dangerously and negligent driving and is scheduled to appear at Kiama Local Court in early March.

Police also reported the matter to Family and Community Services.
