Racegoers can expect dry weather but it won't be too warm as a partly cloudy day is predicted for the Melbourne Cup.

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a maximum of 22C on Tuesday, with some clouds and light winds in the afternoon.

There's only a 10 per cent chance of rain, with showers forecast for the city on Wednesday.
