Fort William locals said changing wind conditions meant the fire was unpredictable, and planned to evacuate their homes.
"It was like something from Armageddon or something like that," Lindsay Sedgwick told BBC's James Cook.

Mike White from the Scottish Fore and Rescue Service said this most recent fire has been one of many to hit the highlands.
"We've had a very dry season, so [with] a small ignition source you can see the hills around you, this devastation."
