Detectives are examining a computer, paperwork and a phone found in a bin near the riverside London home of Rebekah Brooks, the former chief executive of News International, the Guardian reported.
According to the newspaper, the bag was found in an underground parking lot just yards from the apartment block where Brooks lives.
It was handed to security Monday afternoon, and Brooks's husband, Charlie, tried to reclaim it.
He couldn't prove the bag was his and the police was called. He also denied that it belonged to his wife.
CCTV footage is being looked at to ascertain who dropped the bag in the trash.

Mr Brooks's spokesman David Wilson said the bag was his client's and "they were nothing to do with Rebekah or the [phone-hacking] case".
Instead, he claimed the bag was accidentally dropped off by Mr Brooks's friend at the wrong place and a cleaner had placed it in the bin, thinking it was rubbish.
