Australian Luke Durbridge has withdrawn from the Tour de France after his stage-one crash.

Durbridge was among several riders who crashed in wet conditions during the 14km individual time trial at Dusseldorf.

Spanish riders Alejandro Valverde and Jon Izaguirre were already out of the Tour after they also crashed during the stage.

Durbridge finished second-last in the opening stage and started the second stage on Sunday from Dusseldorf to Liege.

But he withdrew early in the 203.5km stage.

"After an incredibly brave attempt, Durbridge has been forced to withdraw from his injuries suffered yesterday. Heal up Durbo," his team posted on Twitter.

This was Durbridge's fourth Tour start and his loss is a significant blow for Orica-Scott.

Durbridge is renowned as a hard-working rider and he regularly goes to the front of bunches to either drive a break or reduce a time deficit.
