A Dutch company has invented the world’s first electronic joint.

The company E-Njoint BV is claiming the electronic joint is "quite harmless" and "100 per cent legal" as some versions don’t have nicotine or Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the psychoactive drug found in cannabis that gets users high.

However, other variants of the e-joint, such as the 'E-njoint Vaporizer' will allow users to smoke "dry herbs" and the 'E-Njoint Rechargeable' can be filled by users with their own cannabis liquid content.

The chrome-plated e-joint looks like a typical conical shaped joint. Each time the smoker takes a puff, a green cannabis leaf lights up. To add to its gimmicks, it also comes in six fruity flavours. There’s even a limited edition World Cup 2014 e-joint.

"Holland is well known in the world for its tolerant and liberal attitude toward soft drugs and the introduction of this new product clearly makes a statement," said E-Njoint CEO Menno Contant.

In Holland, smoking weed is legal. Cafes, retail outlets and souvenir shops openly sell marijuana products.

"As long as you don’t bother or disturb other people and stay within the legal boundaries, all is well," Contant added. "Everyone should feel fine, because what we are doing is no crime."

Around 10,000 e-joints are reportedly produced each day and sold all over Europe at everyday cigarette stores and shops.

The company said it is also looking into turning their e-joints into health products for medicinal purposes.
