Dutch shooting suspect 'has confessed'

Dutch prosecutors say 37-year-old suspected gunman Gokmen Tanis has confessed over the deadly shooting on a tram in Ultrecht.

The suspect in the deadly Utrecht tram shooting has confessed and says that he acted alone, Dutch prosecutors say.

Prosecution spokesman Frans Zonneveld has told The Associated Press that the motive for Monday's shooting that left three people dead and three seriously wounded is still under investigation.

The 37-year-old suspect, Gokmen Tanis, faces charges including multiple murder with a terrorist intent.

Earlier on Friday, a judge extended Tanis's detention by two weeks after ruling that "the suspicion is strong enough to detain the man for longer", according to a court statement.

Tanis was arrested after a seven hour manhunt on Monday.
